Greater Noakhali was considered as an area of conscious people during colonial rule. Lakshmipur district is a part of that political heritage. The political leaders of this region, irrespective of their belief and ideals responded timely to the call of the people and the country. The pride of Lakshmipur, spiritual personality and founder of political party Khelafat Movement, Moulana Mohammadulla Hafezzi Huzur (R) was a respectable man of this country. Advocate Mohammad Ullah was the Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (National Assembly) and later on, President of Bangladesh. Spiritual Leader Shah Syed Golam Sarwar Hossainy (R) was a member of  the parliament during the British and Pakistan period.
