Greater Noakhali was considered as an area of conscious people during colonial rule. Lakshmipur district is a part of that political heritage. The political leaders of this region, irrespective of their belief and ideals responded timely to the call of the people and the country. Anti-colonial movement, Non-Co-operation movement, Khelafat movement, under-ground terrorist movement were led by the political leaders of Lakshmipur. After foundation of Pakistan State, the political leaders of this area took a positive role and lunched fruitful  Co-operation in

After independence of Bangladesh, some stalwart politicians were accommodated in the ministry. They applied their talents, experience and time for the emancipation of common people, development of  the country and the institutional shape of democracy. The pride of Lakshmipur, spiritual personality and founder of political party Khelafat Movement, Moulana Mohammadulla Hafezzi Huzur (R) was a respectable man of this country. Advocate Mohammad Ullah was the Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (National Assembly) and later on, President of Bangladesh. Spiritual Leader Shah Syed Golam Sarwar Hossainy (R) was a member of  the parliament during the British and Pakistan period.
